Rafael Domingo

Rafael Domingo was born on February 21, 1963 in La Rioja (Spain). He received a Doctorate degree in Law (honors) from the University of Navarra (1986). He was granted the Humboldt Fellowship to carry out research on Roman Law at the University of Munich (1989-1990). Aditionally, he was Visiting Scholar at “La Sapienza” in Rome (1993) and at the Columbia School of Law in New York (2000).

 

He was Professor of Roman Law at the University of Cantabria (Spain) from 1989 to 1995. He is currently working in the School of Law at the University of Navarra, which he joined in 1995. He has held differents positions including Dean of the School of Law (1996-1999). He is presently the Director of the Garrigues Chair in Global Law (2003).

 

Professor Domingo is a member of the “Société Internationale des Droits de l'Antiquité” (1987), “Asociación Iberoamericana de Derecho Romano” (1994); “Société d'Histoire des Droits” (1995), “American Society for Legal History” (2000), and “Foro España-Japón” (2000). He is also a member of the “Academia de Jurisprudencia y Legislación” (1996), “Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften” (1997), and “Academia de Ciencias Morales y Políticas” (2003).

 

Professor Domingo has published many books and articles on topics ranging from Roman Law and the History of Jurisprudence, to Comparative Law and Legal Theory. His recent books include: Auctoritas (1999); Reglas jurídicas y aforismos (2000), Código civil japonés (2000), Textos de Derecho Romano (second edition 2002), and Principios de Derecho global (2003).
